First Aid For Mental Health - Level 2

This 1-day course is suitable for everyone but has been designed to help employers to provide a positive mental health culture within the workplace and to provide learners with comprehensive knowledge on a range of the most common mental health conditions and the skills to be able to act should a condition be suspected.

The course covers the content of the Level 1 course but also expands on the effects of drugs and alcohol, incorporates the First Aid for Mental Health Action Plan and provides learners with the skills and knowledge to assist employers in implementing a positive mental health culture to support employees within a workplace.

Assessment and Certifications

The qualification is assessed through both a practical demonstration of the First Aid for Mental Health Action Plan and a multiple-choice question paper. Upon successful completion of the qualification assessment, learners will be awarded the Ofqual regulated Level 2 Award in First Aid for Mental Health. This qualification is valid for 3 years from the date of achievement. It is strongly recommended that the learner attends annual refresher training. The learner will need to complete the full course again to requalify for a further 3 years.

The learner will:

  • Know what mental health is, why people develop mental health conditions and the role of a first aider for mental health
  • Know how to provide advice and practical support for a person presenting a mental health condition
  • Know how to recognise and manage stress
  • Know how to recognise a range of mental health conditions
  • Understand the impact of substance abuse on mental health
  • Understand the First Aid for Mental Health Action Plan and be able to put it in place
  • Know how to implement a positive mental health culture in the workplace
