Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF)

Our Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (FAW) is a nationally recognised qualification designed for workplaces that require fully trained first aiders.

Where an employer’s first aid needs assessment identifies a requirement for a First Aider, this qualification meets the requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981. The course provides learners with the knowledge, practical skills and confidence to respond effectively to a wide range of workplace first aid emergencies and illnesses.

This comprehensive three-day First Aid at Work course equips learners to manage incidents safely and provide appropriate care until professional medical assistance arrives.

No previous first aid experience is required.

What Will You Learn?

By the end of the course, learners will be able to:

  • Understand the role and responsibilities of a first aider
  • Assess an incident safely and effectively
  • Manage an unresponsive casualty
  • Perform CPR and use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • Place a casualty in the recovery position
  • Provide first aid for choking
  • Control and manage external bleeding
  • Recognise and treat shock
  • Provide first aid for minor injuries
  • Manage fractures, sprains and strains
  • Recognise and respond to head and spinal injuries
  • Recognise and respond to chest injuries
  • Manage burns and scalds
  • Recognise and respond to seizures and epilepsy
  • Recognise and respond to asthma attacks
  • Recognise and respond to severe allergic reactions and anaphylaxis
  • Recognise and respond to diabetes-related emergencies
  • Identify the signs and symptoms of heart attack
  • Identify the signs and symptoms of stroke
  • Recognise and manage poisoning incidents
  • Recognise the effects of extreme heat and cold
  • Understand how to record and report accidents and incidents

Assessment and Certification

Assessment is carried out through continuous practical observation by the instructor throughout the course, alongside completion of the required qualification assessments.

Upon successful completion, learners will receive the Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work, an accredited qualification that is valid for three years.

To maintain confidence and competence, annual refresher training is strongly recommended. Learners must complete the full First Aid at Work course again before expiry to renew their qualification for a further three years.
