First Aid At Work Level 3

It is a requirement of the Health and Safety law that employers provide a safe and healthy environment to work in. If your risk assessment highlights the need for qualified first aiders, then this qualification will provide you with suitable, highly trained personnel.

This comprehensive 3-day course covers a wide range of first aid emergencies, enabling all participants to deal with emergency situations with confidence in a prompt, safe and effective way. In addition, this course will include any protocol changes that may have arisen since their last training course.

Assessment and Certifications

Practical assessment is ongoing by the instructor each day, along with a written assessment on each day. This qualification lasts for 3 years. To renew the qualification, learners will need to sit the First Aid at Work Requalification course. However, it is recommended that during the 3-year period, the learners attend annual refresher courses.

Qualification Outcomes

Learners will be taught the following:

  • Understand the roles and responsibilities of a first aider
  • Be able to assess an incident
  • Be able to provide first aid to an unconscious casualty (CPR, defibrillation, recovery position and seizures)
  • Be able to provide first aid to a casualty who is choking
  • Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with external bleeding
  • Know how to provide first aid to a casualty who is in shock
  • Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with minor injuries (small cuts, grazes, bruises and small splinters)
  • Be able to conduct a secondary survey (including head to toe survey)
  • Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected injuries to bones, muscles and joints
  • Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected head and spinal injuries
  • Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected chest injuries
  • Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with burns and scalds
  • Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with an eye injury
  • Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with sudden poisoning
  • Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with anaphylaxis (EpiPen, Jext and Emerade)
  • Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected major illness (Heart attack, stroke, epileptic seizure, asthma and diabetic emergency)

First Aid At Work Requalification - Level 3

This 2-day First Aid at Work course is designed for those who currently hold a First Aid at Work qualification that is due to expire.

A first aider can renew their First Aid at Work qualification by attending this 2-day course within 1 month past the expiry date.

If the first aider’s qualification has lapsed by more than 1 month, but no longer than 3 months, they can attend the course providing ‘special considerations’ have been applied, such as a signed letter from the employer to the training provider stating why the first aider does not require the full 3-day course.
