Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF)

Our Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) is a nationally recognised qualification designed for workplaces that require trained emergency first aiders.

Where an employer’s first aid needs assessment identifies a requirement for an Emergency First Aider, this qualification meets the requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.

This practical one-day Emergency First Aid at Work course provides learners with the essential skills and confidence to deal with a range of workplace first aid emergencies safely, promptly and effectively until professional medical help arrives.

  • Anyone wishing to gain essential first aid skills


No previous first aid experience is required.

What Will You Learn?

By the end of the course, learners will be able to:

  • Understand the role and responsibilities of a first aider
  • Assess an emergency situation safely and effectively
  • Provide first aid to an unresponsive casualty
  • Perform CPR and use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • Place a casualty in the recovery position
  • Provide first aid for choking emergencies
  • Control and manage external bleeding
  • Recognise and treat shock
  • Provide first aid for minor injuries, including cuts, grazes, bruises, splinters and burns

Assessment and Certification

Assessment is carried out through continuous practical observation by the instructor throughout the course.

Upon successful completion, learners will receive the Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work, an accredited qualification that is valid for three years.

To maintain confidence and competence, annual refresher training is strongly recommended. Learners must complete the full Emergency First Aid at Work course again before expiry to renew their qualification for a further three years.

  • 1 day (9:00am–4:00pm)
  • Classroom-based practical training
  • Delivered by experienced and qualified first aid trainers
