Level 3 Award in Forestry First Aid

Our Level 3 Award in Forestry First Aid is a nationally recognised qualification designed for individuals working in forestry, arboriculture, woodland management and other remote outdoor environments.

This two-hour course provides learners with the additional knowledge and practical skills needed to respond to serious injuries and medical emergencies that may occur when working in forestry and remote locations. The qualification is recognised by organisations including the Forestry Commission and is often required by employers, contractors and landowners involved in forestry operations.

The course can be delivered as an add-on to an Emergency First Aid at Work or First Aid at Work course, or as a standalone qualification for learners who already hold a valid, in-date Emergency First Aid at Work or First Aid at Work certificate.

What Will You Learn?

By the end of the course, learners will be able to:

  • Understand the additional first aid considerations associated with forestry and remote working environments
  • Conduct an effective emergency response in remote locations
  • Manage catastrophic bleeding using appropriate techniques
  • Apply haemostatic dressings where appropriate
  • Use tourniquets to control severe bleeding
  • Recognise and manage crush injuries
  • Understand the effects of hypothermia and how to provide appropriate first aid
  • Manage casualties when emergency services may be delayed due to location or access challenges

Assessment and Certification

Assessment is carried out through continuous practical observation by the instructor throughout the course.

Upon successful completion, learners will receive the Level 3 Award in Forestry First Aid, an accredited qualification.

Learners attending the standalone course must maintain a valid Emergency First Aid at Work or First Aid at Work qualification alongside their Forestry First Aid certification.
