Level 1 Award in Awareness of Safeguarding (RQF)

Our Level 1 Award in Awareness of Safeguarding is a nationally recognised qualification designed to provide learners with a basic understanding of safeguarding and their responsibilities in protecting children, young people and adults at risk.

This four-hour course introduces the key principles of safeguarding, helping learners recognise potential signs of abuse, neglect and exploitation, while understanding how concerns should be reported and managed appropriately.

By increasing awareness and promoting a culture of vigilance, this qualification helps individuals contribute to safer environments within workplaces, educational settings, community organisations and voluntary groups.

No previous safeguarding training is required.

What Will You Learn?

By the end of the course, learners will be able to:

  • Understand what is meant by safeguarding
  • Understand the importance of safeguarding children, young people and adults at risk
  • Recognise the signs and indicators of abuse, neglect and exploitation
  • Identify different types of abuse, including physical, emotional, sexual and neglect
  • Understand the potential barriers to reporting safeguarding concerns
  • Recognise the importance of acting on concerns appropriately
  • Understand safeguarding responsibilities and professional boundaries
  • Know how and when to report safeguarding concerns
  • Understand the importance of accurate recording and information sharing
  • Contribute to creating a safer environment for those in their care

Assessment and Certification

Assessment is carried out through successful completion of the qualification assessment and participation throughout the course.

Upon successful completion, learners will receive the Level 1 Award in Awareness of Safeguarding, an accredited qualification.

There is no requirement to renew this qualification. However, refresher training is recommended to ensure knowledge remains current and aligned with safeguarding best practice.
