Level 1 Award in Awareness of First Aid for Mental (RQF)

Our Level 1 Award in Awareness of First Aid for Mental Health is a nationally recognised qualification designed to increase understanding of mental health and promote positive wellbeing in the workplace and wider community.

This four-hour course provides learners with an introduction to common mental health conditions, the importance of early intervention and the role individuals can play in supporting someone who may be experiencing a mental health challenge.

By developing greater awareness and understanding of mental health, learners can help reduce stigma, encourage positive conversations and contribute to a more supportive environment for colleagues, friends and family members.

No previous knowledge or experience is required.

What Will You Learn?

By the end of the course, learners will be able to:

  • Understand what is meant by mental health
  • Identify some of the common signs of mental ill health
  • Understand the importance of positive mental health and wellbeing
  • Recognise factors that may affect a person’s mental health
  • Understand the impact mental health challenges can have on individuals and those around them
  • Know where and how to access appropriate support and guidance
  • Understand the role of a Mental Health First Aider
  • Help reduce stigma by promoting positive conversations around mental health

Assessment and Certification

Assessment is carried out through successful completion of the qualification assessment and participation throughout the course.

Upon successful completion, learners will receive the Level 1 Award in Awareness of First Aid for Mental Health, an accredited qualification.

There is no requirement to renew this qualification. However, refresher training is recommended to maintain awareness and keep knowledge up to date.
