Level 2 Award in First Aid for Youth Mental (RQF)

Our Level 2 Award in First Aid for Youth Mental Health is a nationally recognised qualification designed to provide learners with an understanding of mental health in children and young people and the skills needed to recognise and respond to signs of mental ill health.

This one-day course explores a range of common mental health conditions that can affect young people and helps learners understand how to provide initial support, start appropriate conversations and signpost individuals towards professional help when needed.

By increasing awareness and understanding of youth mental health, learners can help create supportive environments where children and young people feel listened to, understood and supported.

No previous mental health training is required.

What Will You Learn?

By the end of the course, learners will be able to:

  • Understand what is meant by mental health and mental ill health in children and young people
  • Recognise the signs and symptoms of common mental health conditions affecting young people
  • Understand factors that can influence a young person’s mental wellbeing
  • Recognise the impact mental health challenges can have on education, relationships and daily life
  • Identify potential risk factors and protective factors
  • Understand the importance of early intervention and support
  • Start supportive conversations with children and young people about mental health
  • Provide initial support while maintaining appropriate boundaries
  • Understand the role of a Youth Mental Health First Aider
  • Signpost children, young people and families towards appropriate sources of support
  • Promote positive mental health and emotional wellbeing

Assessment and Certification

Assessment is carried out through successful completion of the qualification assessment and participation throughout the course.

Upon successful completion, learners will receive the Level 2 Award in First Aid for Youth Mental Health, an accredited qualification.

There is no requirement to renew this qualification. However, refresher training is recommended to maintain confidence, awareness and up-to-date knowledge.

Course Duration

  • 1 day (9:00am–4:00pm)
  • Classroom-based training
  • Delivered by experienced and qualified Mental Health First Aid trainers
