We are proud to be working alongside Neil Davidson on an important initiative aimed at improving out-of-hospital cardiac arrest survival rates across Calderdale.
Every year, thousands of people in the UK experience a cardiac arrest outside of a hospital setting. In Yorkshire, survival rates remain low, with only around 1 in 11 people surviving an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest as of January 2022. However, immediate intervention from bystanders can dramatically improve a casualty’s chances of survival.
Early recognition of cardiac arrest, prompt CPR and rapid access to a public access defibrillator (AED) are critical links in the chain of survival. By increasing awareness of lifesaving CPR skills and encouraging greater understanding of how defibrillators work, we believe local communities can play a vital role in saving lives.
Through this initiative, we hope to educate individuals, businesses, schools and community groups throughout Calderdale about the importance of CPR training and the availability of public access defibrillators. Together, we can help create a more resilient community and improve outcomes for people experiencing a cardiac arrest.
